Taïder the match-winner - Henry's Montreal Impact eliminate DC United
After being defeated 1-0 by the Montreal Impact, D.C. United have become the latest side to be eliminated from the MLS is Back Tournament. The Montreal Impact, coached by former France legend Thierry Henry, remain alive but will have to await results in other groups to see whether they will become one of the four highest-ranked third-placed teams.
The game-winner on Tuesday night was Saphir Taïder. In the 31st minute, Samuel Piette played a short corner to Bojan Krkic, the Spaniard, in turn, spotted Taïder on top of the box, the midfielder's shot from 25-yards was deflected to beat goalkeeper Bill Hamid. Four minutes later, D.C. United were lucky that they still had 11 men on the field. Felipe Martins stamped on Victor Wanyama's thigh and only received a yellow card.
In the second half, D.C. United started with the most significant chance. In the 57th minute, Yamil Asad spotted Ulises Segura wide open inside the box, but Clément Diop produced a fantastic stop. Going the other way in the 68th minute, Maximiliano Urruti broke into the box from the right and his shot beat Hamid hit the inside post and somehow stayed out. Ultimately, however, it would not matter, as Montreal managed to see the game out.
